Team Calorically Dense: five guys from Kingston, WA, fueled by stubbornness, peanuts, and at least six collective beers. Born at a 4th of July parade in a moment of patriotic intoxication, this team is bringing their $2,300 Tartan 10 north and hoping that bad decisions made with good friends make great stories, not expensive rescue operations.

What’s going to break first—and what’s your plan when it does?
The f****** pedal drive! My stubborn rowing ability to get us back into the wind or current window. Or a sail. We keep putting holes in sails. We do have a backup sail for R2AK, so that would be the plan, a not quite as good sail.

First things first, why Race to Alaska?
We want to Race to Alaska in order to sail and see the beauty of day turn into night, turn into day again. Then hopefully one or two of us get some sleep. We want to sail, we want to experience the joy of finishing.
