To the R2AK Community,
Race to Alaska is a lot of things. Adventure race, community, personal challenge, and an attempt to tell non-standard stories from a non-standard race in non-standard ways to celebrate and inspire people into their own version of incredible. From the beginning we’ve tried to tell R2AK’s stories in our version of the spirit of adventure: up to the edge but not over. Everyone has a different idea of what is acceptable, everyone’s edge is different, but we’ve recently gone over ours and for that we wanted to say we’re sorry.
A trigger warning is a statement made prior to sharing potentially disturbing content, and is intended to alert people with trauma that they might not want to read, watch, or listen to the content that follows. We received some feedback that the trigger warnings in our team bios were inappropriate. After an internal review, we agreed. It’s clear to us now that using them in a casual or flippant way is out of bounds. We made a mistake, have made edits, and want to apologize for any harm we might have caused.
There is a lot of feedback in the world, and here at the R2AK we have a process of reviewing both the things we put out as well as the feedback that comes back our way. Not every opinion is implemented, but they all are considered. Thanks for being part of our community and part of the conversation.
