The quintessential scene from the 1976 film “Network” involves a career anchorman hitting a breaking point on-air. The central character was a newsman, but the system he worked in was obsessed with the number, cared more about the ratings than the quality of the news. In a live TV meltdown he declares over and over “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” People take to the streets and a movement is born.

If sailing were Network, team Traffic would be having us all shouting out of our windows, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!”. These guys were the stable horses of the Northwest racing circuit and when they ran out of races they took on the responsibility of establishing the ratings for the boats that did race. The great debate about who has the slower boat led him to the wide open embrace of the R2AK- no debate, no handicap, just unadulterated competition. We’ll let the online forum hash out how unfair it is, we have sailing to do.

Welcome aboard Team Traffic, we’re mad as hell too.
